Fiona McNamara
As a continuous party member for almost 30 years, Fiona McNamara was elected as Party President in January 2025.
A former secondary English and History teacher, Fiona worked across Queensland and New Zealand before joining the Queensland Teachers’ Union (QTU) in roles including Organiser and Legal Officer. She also served as Federal Women’s Officer for the Australian Education Union, promoting gender equity and the introduction of paid maternity leave.
Fiona ran as Labor’s candidate in Dickson (2007, 2010) and Brisbane (2013) and later served as Principal Policy Advisor for Education, Women and Domestic and Family Violence to Premiers Palaszczuk and Miles for nine years.
In addition to serving as Party President, Fiona is an official with the Queensland Teachers’ Union.
