Richie Bates
Richie Bates has a strong history of delivering for his community. Having been a Councillor at Cairns Regional Council and a former railway worker, Richie understands the challenges families in the community are facing and knows only the Miles Labor Government has a plan to do what matters for Queensland.
That includes cost of living relief, such as $1000 off energy bills, 20% off rego and 50c fares all being delivered by the new Premier Steven Miles.
The commitment to build a satellite hospital in FNQ shows that access to better healthcare, closer to home matters to Richie Bates.
With a long involvement in local sport, including being a junior cycling coach and the member of numerous clubs and committees, Richie has seen firsthand how local sport creates stronger and safer communities. For community members concerned about community safety, the Miles Government’s comprehensive community safety plan is also tackling prevention and intervention.
Water Security is top of mind for the Cairns community, so they know they can trust Richie, who was the Chair of Cairns Regional Council’s Water Committee that established the foundation of the Cairns Water Security project in Gordonvale.
He still serves on the board of Regional Development Australia in the Tropical North and remains committed to building better communities through infrastructure and services.
Richie Bates and Labor will invest in important infrastructure and Queensland’s critical frontline, unlike the LNP who have already announced a debt reduction strategy, which means they’ll sack teachers, nurses and police officers. Just like David Crisafulli and Campbell Newman did in 2012.
