Save the Ellis St shortcut
Kangaroo Point residents have been using the Ellis St/Lower River Tce as a local shortcut for as long as we can remember.
Cars and cyclists alike use this little shortcut, and it’s getting a bit crowded. The Queensland Government wants to build a cycleway that separates bikes from cars and pedestrians, making Lower River Terrace safer for everyone. The Queensland Government put this idea out for public consultation earlier this year.
However, the local Councillor, Jonathan Sri, has slammed these plans as a waste of money and has suggested that, instead, Council should close off Ellis Street, stopping cars from accessing Lower River Terrace. Closing a road to local residents is a big deal – it reduces amenity – and proper consultation needs to happen.
