Susie and her family have lived, studied, built businesses and been an integral part of Southport's vibrant community for almost all their lives.
From humble beginnings living in and managing the Hotel Cecil, Susie's parents went on to build and manage the Benowa Tavern, the Helensvale Tavern, the Mi Hi Tavern, the Pacific Hotel, the Gold Coast Tourist Shuttle as well as the Gold Coast Tweed Heads Giants which entered the NRL in 1988. Susie's father, the late Peter Gallagher served as the Chairman of the Gold Coast Turf Club and was also the driving force behind the Magic Millions Racing Carnival.
Susie attended school locally at Guardian Angels Primary School, and Star of the Sea College before returning later in life to complete a Bachelor of Business, as well as an Honours Degree at Griffith University, Southport. Her love for education continued and Susie now also holds a Master of Education Studies and a Graduate Diploma of Education from the University of Queensland.
With wide ranging experience across a variety of different industries, Susie continues to be involved in event management on the Gold Coast and now serves as the Managing Director of Own2Feet, a Disability Service Provider based in Southport that services the Gold Coast and Logan.
As a long-term local, Susie understands Gold Coasters are hurting due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of Annastacia Palaszczuk's team, Susie is committed to Queensland's economic recovery plan which supports small businesses right here on the Gold Coast. As Annastacia Palaszczuk's candidate in Southport, Susie is committed to backing job creating projects on the Gold Coast including M1 upgrades, creating more than 2000 jobs, and the next stage of the Gold Coast light rail, creating 760 jobs.
